Escape Long Immigration Queue with Autogate System at These 2 International Airports in Indonesia

Two international airports in Indonesia, namely Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta) Airport in Tangerang and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali have implemented autogate systems. Autogate integrates Face Recognition technology with Border Control Management (BCM) to support immigration supervision at the crossings.

A total of 78 autogates at Soetta Airport have been operational since January 2024. Meanwhile, at Ngurah Rai Airport, 30 Autogates have also been operational since March 2024.

Autogate is an immigration inspection facility through automatic crossing gates for every foreign national (WNA) and Indonesian citizen (WNI) entering or leaving Indonesia. With autogate, immigration inspections become faster, easier, and more practical without compromising security.

To pass through an autogate, it is necessary to undergo passport and fingerprint scanning procedures available on the autogate equipment.

How to register?

Foreign nationals must use an electronic passport and have a visa, such as Electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VoA) or Electronic Visa (e-Visa), applied for through the evisa.imigrasi.go.id website.

For nationals of the 10 visa-free countries (ASEAN member countries), it is mandatory to register a BVK application at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. Foreigners can also scan the barcode around the airport and register through the available link to pass through the autogate.

Meanwhile, for Indonesian citizens (WNI), the autogate machine can be used by holders of electronic passports as well as regular or non-electronic passports.

  1. Prepare your passport, if using a passport cover, please remove it first to facilitate the passport scanning process.

  2. Place the passport biodata page on the scan machine.

  3. Wait until the scanning process is complete and the autogate entry door opens.

  4. Please enter and stand at the designated point on the autogate.

  5. Perform biometric verification as instructed on the autogate screen. The authentication process consists of fingerprint and facial scanning.

  6. Please wait until the verification process is complete and the autogate exit door opens.

  7. Process is complete. You can now continue your journey.

With the autogate facility, international arrival and departure immigration checks involving facial and fingerprint photo capture only take around 35-60 seconds per person. This way, queues won't be too long.
