Get to know the Cordon Guard: the Honor Guard Welcoming World Leaders at 43rd ASEAN Summit

Jakarta, 6 September 2023 – The leaders of ASEAN partner countries have arrived in Indonesia to attend the 43^rd ASEAN Summit at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Jakarta on 5—7 September 2023. The state guests received military honors from the Honor Guard or Cordon Guard of the Indonesian Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).

Cordon Squad are the best TNI Army military soldiers who serve as state protocol officers. This squad is the one who welcomed the heads of state attending the 43^rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

" The Cordon Squad is tasked to welcome the arrival of the heads of state attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit," said Cordon Honor Squad Platoon Commander, Second Lieutenant CPM Sumarjo Sianturi in a video released by the Presidential Secretariat, Wednesday (6 September 2023).

He explained that the military uniforms for the Cordon Guard are different from the standard uniform of other squads. "When the heads of state are at the (Presidential) Palace we wear the red and white (uniform). But for the ASEAN Summit, we use the special Cordon Squad uniforms," he said.

He also stated that for the gala dinner and official events attended by heads of state, the Cordon Guard will wear the black uniform.

Second Lieutenant CPM Sianturi explained that the squad had made thorough preparations to welcome the world leaders who come to attend the ASEAN Summit.

"As long as we do what we’ve been practicing, there’ll be no problem. Everything will be clear, smooth, and under control," he concluded.
