KERTAJATI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, West Java, welcomes First Landing by Indonesia One
On a sunny Thursday morning, 24th May, the Presidential Plane carrying Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and Cabinet Ministers, landed smoothly on the runway of the brand new Kertajati International Airport, in West Java. This was the first plane to land on the newly completed International airport, which was ceremoniously welcomed with a water salute of showers from fire engines.
The landing marked the official operation of Indonesia’s second largest international airport after Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International airport in Tangerang. Kertajati is now also the second airport for the province of West Java, next to Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung.

Finally ready for operation after its initial plan
Kertajati airport has been planned to be funded by four parties, which are the National Government, the Regional Government, State-owned corporations and the private sector, but construction had stagnated. Therefore, to accelerate its finalization, in 2014 the government decided to fund the airport’s completion funded from the national budget in the National Strategic Program, within its original plan.

In this partnership, the National Government is responsible for the completion of the first of two runways, measuring 2,500 meters in length and 60 meters wide, a parallel taxiway of 25 meters wide, the apron and ground support equipment, airfield lighting and airport tower.
A second runway in construction will be 3,200 meters long and able to receive wide-bodied aircraft the type of Airbus A380, B747 as also B777.
Whereas, the West Java regional government is responsible for the construction of the airport terminal covering 92,000 square meters with a handling capacity of 5.6 million passengers per year.

Director of Air Navigation Operations of Kertajati airport, Wisnu Darjono further informed the press that the extensive terminal will be passenger-friendly. There will be many shops and boutiques, a cinema, destination promotions. and numerous food centers.

To date, the Husein Sastranegara airport in Bandung has grown way beyond its capacity, so that it is indeed high time that the large and scenic West Java province with its multiple attractions has a second airport all its own.
