Situated at the most eastern edge of Java, Banyuwangi’s challenging waves in the province of East Java will become the arena for renowned international surfers to showcase their skills when the Banyuwangi International Surf Competition 2013 gets underway from 24th to 26th May 2013, This prestigious event will take place at the Red Island Beach, which is one of the most renowned surfing spots in the area.

As host of the competition, the Banyuwangi Regency Authority projects that the event will draw about 160 surfers from 18 countries, who will compete for the total prize of US$4,600. The international surfers will come from all over the globe includingfrom the USA, Sweden,the  Netherlands, New Zealand, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Malaysia, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, and Austria.

Bringing the concept of “Family Surfing”, the competition is open to both professional and amateur surfers. The first day of the event is reserved for local talents to show off their skills, while the national names will showcase their world class actions on the second day. The pinnacle will be staged on the 3rd day where international surfers will compete for the highest score.

The competition will also be highlighted by musical performances by some of Indonesia’s top bands including Rescue Rockability, Congrad Good Vibration, and Steven Jam.

Situated approximately 5 hours from Surabaya,  capital of East Java, Banyuwangi is just a ferry ride away from the fabled island of Bali.

In the surfing scene, Banyuwangi has already made worldwide reputation through the renowned surfing destination of Grajagan, or popularly known as G-Land. If you wish to discover just how thrilling Banyuwangi’s waves can be, then this event is truly something you cannot afford to miss.
