Garuda Indonesia has again continued the cooperation with the Directorate General of Immigration to serve its passengers On Board Immigration on certain Garuda international routes, that include flights to Jakarta from Tokyo’s Narita Airport,  Seoul and Sydney, in addition to flights to Bali from Tokyo’s Narita Airport, Osaka as well as from Sydney to Bali.  To be included in future are flights from China, namely from Shanghai, Beijing and Canton.

The extra service has given Garuda Indonesia a clear competitive advantage, said Emirsyah Satar, Garuda CEO.

On Thursday, 10 January, the continued cooperation agreement was signed between the Director General of Immigration, Bambang Irawan, Garuda Indonesia CEO, Emirsyah Satar and BRI Bank President Director, Sofyan Basir. The agreement is valid for three years, reported Bisnis Indonesia.

Immigration on Board Garuda flights was started since 2008, explained Faik Fahmi, in charge of the airline’s EVP Services. The in-flight immigration control has boosted Garuda’s occupancy with 20%. Through this service, passengers need only fill their immigration cards while on board, which are then cleared  by Immigration Officials in flight, while payments for Visa-on arrival are made through the BRI Bank on board the plane.

Through this extra facility Garuda passengers flying in from Japan, Korea and Sydney, Australia, need no longer queue up in Immigration upon arrival at Jakarta or Bali airports, greatly expediting border clearance.
