Following the success of Java Jazz and JakJazz Festival in Jakarta, the ASEAN Jazz Festival in Batam, and the Ngayogjazz in Yogyakarta, the hype of Jazz continues to spread across the entire Indonesian Archipelago. This time, the groove of Jazz will reverberate on the island of Kalimantan as the Mahakam Jazz Fiesta Samarinda (MJFS) 2013 gets underway in Samarinda, capital of East Kalimantan, to take place from 1st to 2nd November 2013.
Organized by Jalamaya Production – sister company of WartaJazz-, this year the festival enters its second edition after the success of its inaugural in November 2012.
Growing to become an international class jazz festival, the MJFS 2013 promises to feature some of the most talented international and national jazz musicians. The magic names include: Niels Brouwer (Amsterdam), Yedo Gibson (Brazil), Owen Hart Jr (USA), D’Flo WPP Band (Samarinda), EXPLAINE Band (Samarinda), GO Green (Samarinda), Normandy (Bogor), Deni Urban Jazz Project, Boi Akih with Monica Akihary, Nita Aartsen Quattro feat Adi Darmawan, M. Iqbal, Jalu G. Pratidina, MJR, Second Rise (Balikpapan), Just Kill Me (Tenggarong), Bontang Jazz Project Feat. Marching Band Pupuk Kaltim, YK Band (Samarinda), LIGRO with Adi Darmawan, Agam Hamzah&Gusti Hendy (GIGI), Idang Rasjidi Syndicate feat Iwan Wiradz, Shaku Rasjidi, Indra Artie Dauna, Samuel Song, Yendri, Belacan, Dwiki Dharmawan feat Rieka Roslan, M. Saat Syah, serta M. Iqbal and Adi Darmawan.
The festival is intended as a stage for local talents who may not have received their fair share of spotlight but by showcasing their skills in this event will achieve national and international recognition. The festival is also projected to be an annual event that is expected to become the pride of East Kalimantan.
