Starting Monday, 23 July 2018, Garuda Indonesia has increased its flights from Medan’s Kualanamu airport to the amazing island of Nias, off the west coast of Sumatra, to 12 times weekly from the earlier 9 times per week, announced Nina Sulistyowati, Domestic Commercial Director Garuda recently.

This increase is in view of the rapid demand for flights to Nias, and to offer better service to consumers, said Nina. Aircrafts used are ATR 72-600 planes with a capacity for 70 passengers.
Demand for flights to Nias has surged rapidly, said Nina, as evident from the 75% average passengers load factor. Nias is indeed emerging as a popular international destination that appears that attracts more and more tourists.
We are certain that the the additional flights to Nias now operated by Garuda will significantly ease access to this remote island especially for passengers from Jakarta and neighboring Singapore and Malaysia, which should subsequently increase more investments on the island.

The additional flights will be operated by GA 7118, that leaves Medan at 13.15 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Other routes added by Garuda this year to other emerging tourist destinations in Indonesia, besides serving the Nias flights, are flights between Jakarta to Sorong, gateway to Raja Ampat, Ambon (the original Spice Islands) –Denpasar (Bali), and Makassar – Selayar island, another underwater paradise in South Sulawesi, second only to Raja Ampat.
