The National Reog Ponorogo Festival and Grebeg Suro Festival

The National Reog Ponorogo Festival (FNRP) celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Reog Ponorogo, which has been recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This prestigious recognition highlights Reog Ponorogo as a unique and vital part of Indonesia’s cultural legacy, passed down through generations since the Wengker era (Majapahit period).

Held annually in Ponorogo, this event not only preserves the tradition of Reog but also fuels the local economy. It is celebrated in conjunction with Grebeg Suro and coincides with the Islamic New Year (1 Muharram), offering a month-long series of events, including cultural arts, religious traditions, crafts, sports, and competitions. The festival is a platform for Reog Ponorogo groups from all over Indonesia, competing for the coveted President of the Republic of Indonesia’s Cup, the highest honor in the Reog art form.
