As its name suggests, Festival Wowine—derived from the word “woman”—is a celebration dedicated to honoring the pivotal role of maritime women. In 2025, this festival shines a spotlight on their contributions to preserving culture, safeguarding nature, and nurturing families, with the overarching theme focusing on maritime women.

The festival's core attraction is Hekente, a unique and captivating display where maritime women demonstrate traditional fishing techniques in shallow waters, symbolizing their indispensable role in coastal communities. Beyond the traditions, Festival Wowine actively promotes gender equality, amplifying the voices of women and showcasing their leadership in maritime industries and cultural preservation.
