Located at Pacarejo Village, in the Semanu sub-district, Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta Province, the Kalisuci Cave is about 60km from the city of Yogya and can be reached in a 1.5-2 hours’ drive from the city. The name Kalisuci simply translated means ‘Holy River’ which originates from the spring found in the area that produces an endless flow of crystal clear water even in the rainy season. However, during the rainy season cave tubing here is prohibited for safety of the public since the caves may suddenly flood.
Cave tubing at Kalisuci is managed and organized by the local community through the village Tourism Awareness Association (Pokdarwis). The organization has about 20 guides, the young men and women of the village who will accompany you through the entire journey and ensure your safety during this adventure trip.

Upon arrival at the Kalisuci base camp, a guide will give a briefing to participants on the cave and tubing activities including give safety and security instructions. Then, it is time for all to put on the obligated gear that include life jacket, helmet, headlamp, knee protector, foot protector, and of course the rubber tube that will be your ride for the trip. There are lockers available, so you can leave your stuff such as bags or clean clothes safely here. The operators also provide waterproof bags if you wish to carry your camera and mobile with you down the river.

Once preparations are complete, Then it’s adventure time! The group will walk down some steep stone steps before reaching the entrance of the cave. The descent takes about 10 minutes. But event here you will already be presented with fascinating scenery, perfect for photos and taking selfies. The crystal clear water greets you when you approach the river below. Once you are near the starting point of your cave tubing adventure, you can reach the water by abseiling, or better yet, if you dare, let the action begin by diving straight into the river! Meanwhile, the rubber tubes will also be abseiled down by the crew.
Your Kalisuci cave tubing adventure covers a total distance of about 500 meters taking an approximate time of 1.5 to 2 hours.
Here, the stream will take you through a number of cave that are interconnected called the Suci Cave, the Luweng Senglat Cave, Luweng Geleng Cave, and Mburi Omah Cave. The river’s depth is between 1 to 3 meters, and you will be floating along with the current during the entire journey. Here, you can admire some exceptional wonders: stalactites that hang down magnificently from the cave’s ceiling while stalagmites on either side of the river radiate an out-of-this-world sensation. Before entering the next cave, Gaze up to the clear blue sky above and the rows of sheltering trees as you marvel at the great gifts of nature.

Next to calm water flows, The river will also take you through some small rapids that will surely pump your adrenaline as your tube will slide faster with the current. Your adventure will also be highlighted with the appearance of some wildlife. Bats hang calmly along the ceiling, fish swim under your feet, crabs and shrimps roam the river bed, and huge spiders sit on the stalagmites, that are just among the many creatures you will encounter on this adventure.
