Pangdam Ensures Bali's Security During AIS Forum Summit

Denpasar, October 5, 2023 – The Commander of the Regional Military Command (Pangdam) IX/Udayana, Major General TNI Harfendi, has assured the security of Bali for the upcoming Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum Summit, which will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on October 10–11, 2023.

This assurance was emphasized by Pangdam after the 78th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at Puputan Niti Mandala Field, Renon, Denpasar, on Thursday (10/5/2023).

Pangdam stated that the TNI has already begun preparing various security mechanisms for the Summit, scheduled for October 10–11, 2023.

"We are ready to secure the event because this is an international event, an event for all of us, especially for Bali and Indonesia in general," said Pangdam Udayana.

Harfendi also confirmed that, as of now, there are no significant security concerns regarding Bali. As of Thursday (10/5/2023), joint personnel and equipment from various locations have started arriving in Bali.

Together with the National Police (Polri), the TNI has initiated preliminary plans by conducting a series of Tactical Floor Game (TFG) exercises at both the Bali Regional Police Headquarters (Polda Bali) and the IX/Udayana Military Command (Kodam IX/Udayana).

"For the AIS Forum Summit, we have already started preparations. Most recently, we conducted a Technical Floor Game for the Regional Security Task Force (Pamwil) and the Evacuation Task Force," said Harfendi.

A joint TFG exercise involving the TNI and Polri will be held on Friday (10/6/2023) in Kepaon, Denpasar, followed by a troop deployment event on Saturday (10/7/2023) at Niti Mandala Field, Renon. This deployment will be led directly by the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Admiral Yudo Margono, and the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The AIS Forum Summit carries the main theme: "Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Our Future." Meanwhile, the forum’s three sub-themes are Blue Economy; Our Ocean, Our Future; and Solidarity.

As of Thursday (10/5/2023), 32 countries have confirmed their participation, with five Heads of State attending in person in Bali: the President of Micronesia, the Prime Minister of Niue, the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, and the Prime Minister of Tuvalu.

Fiji and Tonga will send their Deputy Prime Ministers. Meanwhile, the Maldives, Madagascar, Marshall Islands, Palau, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea will send their Ministers.

Additionally, Cabo Verde and New Zealand will be represented by Deputy Ministers. Ireland, Japan, Cyprus, Samoa, Malta, the United Kingdom, Saint Lucia, the Cook Islands, the Philippines, and Suriname will be represented by their Ambassadors.

Furthermore, four international organizations will be attending: Melanesian Spearhead Group, Pacific Islands Forum, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
