Continuing the success of all previous editions, the biggest running in Indonesia will again turn the major streets of the capital city of Jakarta into a colossal race track for thousands of runners from different parts of the world on Sunday, 28 October. Presented by PT.PLN (The National Electricity Company), this 6th edition of Jakarta Marathon this year has been transformed into Electric Jakarta Marathon 2018, carrying the theme: “The Energy of Optimism”.

Over 20,000 runners from 50 countries are projected to take part in this year’s run. As always, the event will feature 5 categories, which are:

This year, for the first time, the Start and Finish line will shift from the National Monument to the Bung Karno Sports Complex. Although the route has yet to be confirmed, Inspiro as promoters and organizers of the event ensures that it will be even more challenging and still featuring the iconic landmarks of Jakarta that include the Old Batavia complex and the Fatahilah Square, the Istiqlal Mosque and the Catholic Cathedral, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, and more. CEO of Inspiro, Ndang Awardi is confident that the new route will pass the calibration and certification of the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

At the launch of the Electric Jakarta Marathon 2018 held on August 8th, 2018, Chairman of Jakarta Marathon, Sapta Nirwandar underlined that the theme is expected to not only raise the spirit of optimism but will, moreover, spread the message that Jakarta continues to establish itself as a world-class sports tourism destination.
Separately, CEO of PT.PLN, Sofyan Basir explained that this year’s marathon forms an inseparable part of events held in conjunction with the commemoration of National Electricity Day which falls on October 27th, 2018. Moreso, the event also expresses PLN’s and the country’s optimism and spirit of energy as shown during the recent 18th Asian Games and the 3rd Asian Para Games also held at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex. As true manifestation of this energy of optimism, a total cash prize of IDR1.5billion awaits winners of the race. “We have prepared a total cash prize of IDR1.5billion for the champions of the Electric Jakarta Marathon 2018” said Sofyan Basir. In addition, Sofyan also hopes that participants will enjoy their stay while in Jakarta and share their experiences with loved ones and friends in their respective home countries, how Jakarta has grown into a more beautiful, attractive, and safe capital city.

Building up to the ‘day of running’, an Electric Jakarta Marathon Running Expo will be held from 25th to 27th October 2018 at the Lagoon Garden, of The Sultan Hotel & Residence, Jakarta. While, on 25th and 26th October, the expo will take place from 10.00 to 20.00 West Indonesia Time, and on the last day, 27th October, it will be open from 10.00 to 18.00 West Indonesia Time.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Police has confirmed its readiness in supporting and ensuring the success of Jakarta Marathon, especially securing and maintaining sterilized conditions of the race route. This assurance was given by the Chief of the Jakarta Police, Idham Aziz, further adding that the support of the Police in the Electric Jakarta Marathon, clearly gives the perfect example how the Police collaborates in partnership with the Government, the private sector, and other related parties to boost Jakarta’s image as a safe and comfortable city.

Held annually at the end of October, the Jakarta Marathon was first held in 2013 , participated by over ten thousand runners from across the world, that included world elite runners from Kenya, Ethiopia, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, and Australia. Since then, more and more running enthusiasts both professionals and amateurs participated in the event which solidly confirms the Jakarta Marathon as the largest international running event Indonesia, and one of the largest in the world.
