천년 이상 동안, 발리의 힌두교 신자들은 신성한 샘물 신전인 뿌라 띠르따 음뿔(Pura Tirta Empul)을 숭배해 왔다. 뿌라 띠르따 음뿔은 인드라 신(God Indra)이 만들었으며 치유의 샘물로 전해져 오고 있다. 오늘 날까지도 치유 효능이 있다고 변함없이 믿어지고 있어 전 세계 관광객들이 이 곳에 방문에 아름다움에 감탄하고 생기를 돋아주는 축복받은 물을 마셔본다.

2017년 6월 발리에서 최근 휴가를 보내는 동안, 버락 오바마 전 미국 대통령, 미쉘 오바마 전 영부인과 딸 마리아와 나타샤의 방문으로 뿌라 띠르따 음뿔을 꼭 방문하고 체험 해봐야 할 유명한 장소가 되었다.

띠뜨라 음뿔 신성한 샘물 신전은 우붓에서 멀리 떨어지지 않은 땀빡시링(Tampaksiring)마을 근처의 마누까야(Manukaya) 마을에 위치하고 있으며, 기안야르 리전시(Gianyar Regency)는 발리 문화의 중심지이다. 사원은 땀빡시랑의 대통령 궁 바로 아래 자리 잡고 있다. 인도네시아 최초의 대통령인 수카르노 대통령이 세운 아름답게 꾸며진 궁전은 이 섬과 국가의 중요한 랜드 마크이다. 대통령 궁과 함께 띠르따 음뿔 샘물 신전은 가장 매력적인 경관을 제공할 것이다.

쁘띠르따안(Petirtaan)이라고 불리는 목욕 장소 때문에, 띠르따 음뿔은 꽤 크고 복잡한 사원이며, 사원을 둘러 보는데 소요되는 시간은 30분에서 1시간 정도이다. 섬 주변의 다른 사원과 같은 신성한 장소에서와 마찬가지로 입장하기 전에 사롱(Sarong)을 입어야 한다. 사룽은 성전 입구에서 구할 수도 있고, 소액의 기부금을 내고 대여가 가능하다.

사원에 들어서자마자, 당신은 큰 석조 발리식 문(현지 사람들에게는 Candi Bentar)을 지나 사원의 바깥 뜰에 도착할 것이다. 사원의 이 공간은 자바 뿌라(Jaba Pura)라고 불린다. 안뜰 끝에서 중앙 안뜰로 이어지는 벽에 짠디 븐따르가 세워져 있습니다. 이 문은 황금색의 털을 가진 두 수호자인 드와라빨라(Dwarapala)가 지키고 있다. 이 문의 위쪽에는 까라(Kala)가 새겨져 있는데 이 것은 위쪽으로 튀어 나와있는 송곳니와 열린 팔로 된 한 쌍의 손잡이가 특징으로 다른 곳의 까라 조각과는 다르다.

내부 안뜰에 들어가면 이 신전의 주요 지역인 ‘자바 뜽아(Jaba Tengah)’ 지역에 도착한다. 성스러운 샘물은 맑고 커다란 물웅덩이에 하얀 물거품을 내뿜으며 30개의 물줄기가 두 개의 신성한 풀(pool)로 분출한다. 발리 섬과 힌두교도들은 이 샘물에 몸을 담구는데 첫 번째 수영장에 서서 물이 나오는 곳에서 몸을 씻으며 자신을 정화한다. 그리고 두 번째 수영장으로 간다. 이는 자신이 정화됐다고 생각할 때까지 계속된다.

정화 웅덩이 뒤에는 즈로안(Jeroan)이라고 불리는 뜨르따 음뿔 성전의 마지막 부분이 있다. 대부분의 관광객들은 그냥 지나치기도 하는 즈로안 또는 내부 안뜰은 정화 풀을 따라 걷고, 휴식을 취할 수 있는 좋은 곳이다. 이 곳은 사람들이 기도를 하기위해 오기도 한다. 안뜰의 앞 부분은 정화 풀을 먹이는 커타란 샘물이 있다. 온천은 녹색 조류로 채워지고 작은 물고기는 갈대 사이에서 헤엄친다. 온천 뒤에는 힌두교 신사들이 있다. 사원의 이 빨리 보는 것이 좋다. 신사는 밝게 꾸며져 있으며 발리 족의 하얀색 옷차림과 대조를 이룬다.

출구로 나가면 꼬이(Koi) 물고기로 가득찬 커다란 수영장을 지나 갈 수 있다. 여기는 4면이 다 벽으로 둘러 쌓여져 있어 조용하고 여유로운 분위기를 느낄 수 있다. 뚱뚱한 꼬이 물고기는 식사를 기다리며 연못에서 느리고 수영한다.
뜨리따 음뿔은 힌두교에서 물의 신인 비스뉴(Vishnu)에게 바쳐진다. 비문은 926년 경 이 성전을 세우는 날 새겼다. 뜨리따 음뿔은 느슨하게 번역 된 물을 땅에 다시 쏟아 내는 것을 의미하는 발리의 언어이다.
