1 | SIUNG BEACH

Siung Beach has grown in popularity not only for the beauty of its sandy shores, but also for its most scenic landscape. There are over a hundred spots where you can climb its jagged cliffs to enjoy the breathtaking view of the panorama. Siung Beach is truly the way to go for hardcore rock climbers who expect an amazing view after a hard day's climb.
How to get there?
Siung Beach is located in Purwodadi Village, Tepus District, Gunungkidul Regency. It is around 80 km (about 2-hour's drive) from the city of Yogyakarta. Travelers are advised to rent a vehicle because there is no public transport service to this site.
2 | POK TUNGGAL BEACH

Only few people know about the secret that lies among dense cliffs known as Pok Tunggal Beach: the beach bordered by two gigantic hills that have been developed as a tourist site. Naturally, a climb to the top of one of these hills, or even both, is the surefire way to enjoy the beautiful panorama. What's so special about this beach? The unique Duras Tree standing alone on the edge of the white sandy beach. This white sandy seaside escapade was opened to the public in 2012.
How to get there?
Pok Tunggal Beach is located in Tepus Village, Tepus District, Gunungkidul Regency. It is around a 15-minutes drive from the popular Indrayanti Beach or some 70 km away from the city of Yogyakarta.
3 | KRAKAL BEACH

Krakal Beach is one of the most favorite spots for locals. Aside from being a fishermen's area, this beach is perfect for expert surfers to test their maneuvers against the reef break. This reef break, however, is a challenge and should be tried only by expert surfers and not for beginners. Unfortunately, there are no posts offering surfboard rentals so all of you skilled surfers, don't forget to bring your own surfboards!
How to get there?
Krakal Beach is located in the village of Ngestiharjo, Tanjungsari District, Gunungkidul Regency. There is no public transport service to this beach. The closest city to the beach is Wonosari (around 23 km). Meanwhile, the beach is around a 2-hour drive, or 50 km, to the east of Yogyakarta.
4 | SINDEN BEACH

Sinden Beach has been getting all the hype recently because of a suspension bridge that connects it to a smaller island known as Kalong Island (the Island of Bats). Here is where you can test your courage walking along a flimsy looking suspension bridge (but is of course actually sturdy), while enjoying the view of the waves crash against the rocks below. Do you have the guts to try?
How to get there?
Sinden Beach and Kalong Island are located in Jepitu Village, Girisubo District, Gunungkidul Regency. There is public transport but it will be easier for you to rent a personal vehicle. It is around a 2-hour's drive, some 80 km, away from the city of Yogyakarta.
5 | Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo

If you're looking for a different kind of adventure, then come to Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo. This area is a coastal dune that is popularly known as the perfect spot for sand surfing (also known as sand boarding). Considering there are only a few places in the world where you can go sand surfing, this is the best place to be for those looking for a unique challenge. Plus, although there are coastal dunes spread across Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, the unique Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo is the only spot that is commercially used for sand surfing. Sand surf's up!
How to get there?
Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo is located on Jalan Pantai Parangkusumo, Parangtritis, Kretek District, Bantul Regency. Using a personal vehicle, it is around a 1 – 1.5 hours drive from the city of Yogyakarta.
