Held from 15th to 19th April 2017, the Krui Pro 2017 International Surfing Competition successfully turned the beautiful beaches at Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Province into a battle arena for international surfers to showcase their exceptional skills. Japanese Surfer, Nishi Keijiro emerged as Champion in the men's category, while in the women's category, Australian Lucy Callister took the top spot in the competition. A collaboration involving the Pesisir Barat Regency, the World Surf League (WSL), the Asian Surfing Championship (ASC), and the Indonesia Wave Surfing Association (PSOI), the Krui Pro 2017 featured the categories in World Surf League (WSL) QS 1000 for Men and Women during the 5 days' competition. The event was participated by international surfers who came from Australia, USA, Brazil, New Zealand, Greece, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

The success of the event also made the name of Pesisir Barat Regency more familiar among world surfers, since the venue will also become a regular host in the WSL series.
Assistant Deputy for International Marketing Strategy of the Ministry of Tourism, Ratna Suranti, commented that the Lampung surfing championship, indeed, plays an important role as a gate opening up the many tourism potentials in Lampung Province. Moreover, the world's surfing championship series will further bolster Indonesia's tourism since 5 out of the 40 series of WSL will take place in Indonesia.

"The championship deserves the full support of the Ministry of Tourism since from the total of 40 of the WSL series, 5 will take place in the Indonesian Archipelago. Response for the event has been very positive. Therefore, by developing the concept of 3A (Attraction, Amenity, and Accessibility) necessary to build a destination, automatically, tour operators will develop South Lampung as a bright tourist destination" continued Ratna Suranti.
The WSL Q 1000 surfing league has already a strong reputation among international surfers. Ratna Suranti considers the series to be an effective media to promote Indonesia's finest surf destinations, especially those that have legendary challenging waves, such as along the island of Nias in North Sumatra, Mentawai in West Sumatra and G-land Banyuwangi in East Java.

"Automatically, attractions that were beforehand secluded destinations in Indonesia will be unveiled to the world's surfers. Consequently, these beaches will attract more surfers from all across the world" added Ratna Suranti.
The title of Surfers' Paradise could not be more aptly applied to the Pesisir Barat Regency since it covers quite a number of exciting surf spots that include the Bocur, Karang Nyimbor, Way Jambu, Mandiri Beach, Way Redak, Labuhan Jukung, and Pugung Tampak locations. Each of these spots have their own special characteristics. The Ujung Bocur, Way Jambu, and Karang Nyimbor, for instance, are favorite among professional surfers for their high and challenging waves, while other spots such as Way Redak and Labuhan Jukung are best for beginners. Stretching along a swathe of 210Km coastline, Pesisir Barat offers 21 surfing spots.
Lampung is easily reached from Jakarta by plane, or if you wish, you can take public bus from Jakarta which is then ferried across the Sunda Strait to Lampung on Sumatra.
