(Nusa Dua, November 16, 2022) – The G20 Summit (KTT) concluded on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. The meeting of G20 leaders was made possible with the crucial role of the media. Thousands of national and international journalists covered the G20 Summit directly from the Media Center, located at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Westin Hotel, Bali, on November 15–16, 2022. As of November 14, 2022, at 8:30 PM WITA, a total of 2,346 journalists were accredited. This included 527 national journalists and 1,819 international journalists. The total number of media outlets was 450, consisting of 105 national media and 345 international media.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), provided two media center rooms: Mangupura Room on the first floor and Nusantara 1 Room on the second floor.

The Media Center was equipped with workstations for 96 PCs, plus 96 LAN connections with a 1.5 Gbps network speed. There were also meeting rooms with a capacity of 48 people.

“The provision of these facilities is to ensure that the media get accurate information, as not all journalists could access the Apurva Kempinski location where the G20 leaders' meeting took place,” said Usman Kansong, Director General of Information and Public Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, when met at the G20 Summit Media Center on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

From November 13-17, 2022, the media center provided facilities including internet access, meeting schedules, official releases, photos, and videos, all available free of charge. Additionally, TV media that required outdoor areas could use any corner or open space around the media center.

The event organizers also provided a press conference auditorium for speakers wishing to meet with the media. Lunch and dinner, drinks, and snacks were served twice a day. The food was buffet-style, featuring Indonesian cuisine along with a variety of dishes from other countries on a rotating basis. The menu changed daily, and many foreign journalists sampled Indonesian culinary offerings.

For transportation convenience, shuttle buses with a fixed schedule were provided. Those not using the shuttle could use electric motorbike taxis, which were also free of charge.

“We are pleased with the facilities available at the media center. I am impressed with the auditorium where the press conferences are held. It is great. We also easily accessed meetings with the speakers,” said Hamdullah Hakan Hacaoglu, a journalist from Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) World, when met by the G20 Communications and Media Team at the media center.

Indian TV journalist Vijai Laxmi also expressed satisfaction, praising the service and accommodation for being prompt and efficient. She commended the cooperative attitude of the organizers when she encountered difficulties during the summit coverage.

Thien from Vietnam News Agency was also relieved by the fast internet, which facilitated the timely delivery of news. He appreciated the excellent facilities provided by the organizers and praised the satisfying service.

A positive response also came from one of the national media outlets. “The facilities at the media center have been very good and helpful for our work. The fast internet and the many computers available mean we don’t have to wait for each other to get our work done,” said Sonya, a journalist from IDN Times, giving two thumbs up to show her satisfaction.

Sonya also appreciated the work of the staff, who were always ready to assist journalists encountering difficulties with their tasks at the media center. Additionally, the availability of food and beverages at the media center provided convenience for the media.

Another valuable experience was shared by Dimas Prasetya from Diskursus Network, Lampung. As a local media outlet based in Lampung, he was proud to be an eyewitness and directly cover the international-scale event like the G20 Summit in Bali.
