No.35/SP/TKM-ASEAN2023/INA/9/2023

Jakarta, 2 September 2023 – Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) is ready to host the Spouse Program on Wednesday, 6 September 2023. This special event for the spouses of ASEAN Heads of State is part of the series of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta. Experience Indonesia in 360.

TMII has been renovated. Thanks to the revitalization carried out by the government in collaboration with PT Injourney, the area now has a neat, greener, more beautiful, and comfortable appearance.

“People can now visit and enjoy the new face of TMII. The revitalization has made TMII look even better,” said President Joko Widodo, marking the completion of the TMII revitalization in Jakarta on Friday (1/9/2023) evening.

The revitalization area includes the renovation of 7.71 hectares of buildings and a 26.56-hectare area. The improvements cover four zones: the first zone is the front area, followed by the Archipelago Lake, the traditional house pavilions, and the modernization of the museums. The Garuda Theater and Keong Mas Theater were rebuilt to keep up with the times.

“The revitalization restores the original spirit of TMII’s establishment according to its main plan. Currently, 70 percent of TMII’s area consists of open space, with only 30 percent dedicated to buildings,” said the President.

"All museum buildings and regional pavilions have also been beautified and revitalized with an inclusive, cultural, and smart concept. I am confident that, with this new look, TMII will become a major tourism icon in Jakarta, and of course, in Indonesia," the President added.

Philosophies of the New Face of TMII

The revitalization of TMII, which started in 2022, has a budget of IDR 1.070 trillion from the central government and IDR 200 billion from PT Injourney.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, explained that the new face of TMII is based on several core philosophies. First, it emphasizes inclusivity while retaining the strength of the Indonesian nation, namely Pancasila.

TMII serves as a tourist destination that is open to all levels of society, fostering tolerance and respect for culture.

The green philosophy is also applied within TMII through the policy of using electric vehicles in the area and environmentally friendly energy sources.

“Seventy percent of TMII remains green. We also use electric vehicles,” he said.

The next philosophy is intelligence, through the implementation of a digital platform as a representation of Indonesia's future.

“We see how modern our nation is, with systems here that are all technology-driven. We start with ticketing, and there will also be digital views,” he said.

Finally, the cultural philosophy, where TMII becomes a tourist destination that represents Indonesia's diverse cultures.

This philosophy is realized through the optimization of arts and cultural activities, and various attractions on open stages, allowing visitors to witness and be part of the culture itself.

“This is our offering, and we hope we can continue to nurture it, not just build TMII,” he concluded.

The revitalization project of TMII’s new face, which began in January 2022, is carried out through collaboration between the Ministry of State Secretariat, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises.

The area’s roads, pedestrian pathways, landscape, drainage, and main gate have also been improved. The main gate now looks more organized and comfortable. Visitors can also enjoy several parking buildings, and since it is a green area, visitors can use special environmentally friendly vehicles to explore the area.

TMII's iconic Archipelago Lake is adorned with miniatures of the country's islands. The lake is now equipped with a dancing fountain that features light shows in the evening. The dancing fountain show takes place every night at the lake.

The Spouse Program for the 43rd ASEAN Summit will take place at Sasono Utomo and Archipelago Lake. Delegation members will enjoy a variety of activities, including an opening dance, a short film performance, and a small and medium enterprise (SME) exhibition. The event will conclude with a shared lunch. (Toro/Diana/TR/Elvira)
