Enhance Your Travel Experience by Visiting Sungai Batang Tourism Village, West Sumatra

For travelers in the Archipelago, the name Lake Maninjau is certainly no stranger. Located in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, this lake offers a unique experience. If you come from Bukittinggi or Puncak Lawang, the view that will greet you is a slope with stretches of rice fields, plantations, and of course, the majestic 132 km² lake.

To reach Lake Maninjau, the only road you need to pass is a legendary area called Kelok 44. Before you take this route, make sure your vehicle is in top condition! The road is narrow and steep. However, don't worry if you feel tired during the trip, as there are several rest stops where you can take a break while enjoying the beauty of Lake Maninjau.

Now, if you're planning to visit Lake Maninjau, don't forget to stop by the Sungai Batang Tourism Village! This village, which is among the top 50 in the 2021 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI), is located in Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra.

Recently, on August 27, 2021, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, visited this area. During his visit, the Minister mentioned that Sungai Batang Tourism Village has the potential to attract international tourists.

To reach Sungai Batang Tourism Village from the main road, you need to travel along a small road for about one kilometer. Along the way, you will enjoy a blend of rice field and hilltop scenery that remains very pristine.

For those of you who are used to life in large cities, you will surely enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, capturing the moments along the road. In addition, the homestay facilities with traditional Minang architecture facing Lake Maninjau will make your travel experience even more memorable.

Sungai Batang Tourism Village offers an eco-tourism and cultural experience. Moreover, as the birthplace of the religious figure Buya Hamka, the village is rich in historical and religious tourism. The tomb of Syekh Muhammad Amrullah, a prominent cleric and Buya Hamka’s grandfather, is an important religious site you shouldn't miss.

Being in Sungai Batang Tourism Village, it would not be complete without visiting the Buya Hamka Birth House Museum, located about 4 kilometers from the main road along Lake Maninjau. In this modest place, you can see the legacy of the author of the famous novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijk, such as his books, walking sticks, and the clothing he wore.

For culinary enthusiasts, Sungai Batang Village has a unique food made from small, yellowish-white fish called rinuak. This endemic fish from Lake Maninjau can be processed into various dishes, one of the most famous being rendang. So it's no wonder that rendang rinuak is one of the culinary specialties from Sungai Batang Tourism Village that you can take home as souvenirs.
