The ASEAN Ministers of Social-Cultural Pillar Produce Commitment to Support ASEAN as the Epicentrum of Growth.

The 30th ASCC Session was led by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, as chair, and attended by the Ministers of Social Culture from ASEAN member countries, Timor-Leste as an observer, and the ASEAN Secretary-General.

Five documents will be presented at the 43rd ASEAN Summit for adoption, relating to inclusive disability development, climate change, gender equality and family development, early childhood education, and sustainable resilience.

Additionally, there are 21 documents on various socio-cultural issues that will be noted at the 43rd ASEAN Summit meeting. All these documents support the theme of Indonesia’s chairmanship in ASEAN for 2023, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.” The meeting also reaffirmed the priority of discussing the ASEAN Vision 2045 and its supporting documents from the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Pillar.

"We have made significant progress in advancing an inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered ASEAN, reflected through the initiatives carried out this year and the resulting documents presented for adoption or notation at the 43rd ASEAN Summit," said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, on Tuesday (August 29, 2023).

Next, Laos will take over the ASCC Chairmanship and the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024. The 31st ASCC Meeting will be held on March 25-26, 2024, in Luang Prabang, Laos.
