PRESS RELEASE NO. 54/SP/TKMG20/11/2022

G20 COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA TEAM

(Nusa Dua, November 13, 2022) – The Bali Provincial Government is accelerating the transition to renewable energy (EBT) starting in 2022 through various regulatory policies and the development of power plants aimed at providing environmentally friendly energy. The Green Bali plan with Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets completion by 2045, ahead of the national target of 2060. Experience Indonesia in 360.

This acceleration is part of the effort to uphold the “Bali Compact” commitment, which was produced at the Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) in Bali in September 2022. This forum is part of the journey of Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022. The commitment contains nine principles that are important for accelerating energy transition.

“The acceleration of the Bali energy independence program with clean energy supports Indonesia as a concrete example of G20 countries' commitment to accelerating energy transitions,” said Ida Bagus Setiawan, Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources Department of Bali Province, to the G20 Communication and Media Team, Sunday (November 13, 2022).

Bagus Setiawan stated that Bali is viewed as a pioneer province in preparing various regional regulations and policies for utilizing clean energy in support of the energy mix towards Bali NZE by 2045.

The government is working to accelerate this transition by 2022, backed by the implementation of 20 regional regulations and 27 gubernatorial regulations. These regulations include regional policies related to energy resilience and preserving Bali’s environmental balance.

The Bali Provincial Government's policy implementation includes the gradual transition of power plants that use oil and coal to liquid natural gas (LNG) and new renewable energy (EBET). Additionally, there are plans to gradually revitalize older plants that use fossil fuels to become more environmentally friendly.

Based on the latest study from the research team of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 2022, Bali has significant potential for renewable energy, especially from solar energy. This solar energy source is the highest in value, capable of producing 10,000 megawatts (MW). The study also mentions other potential sources, such as waste (37 MW) and wind power (1,000 MW).

This 100 kWp PLTS is built to support the G20 Summit electricity supply while demonstrating Indonesia's commitment to renewable energy programs and sustainable economics. The renewable energy power plants are planned to be developed gradually between 2021 and 2030. These include the Nusa Penida 3.5 MW Solar Power Plant in 2022, the Titab Reservoir 1.3 MW in 2023, Bali's West and East regions, each with 24 MW in 2023. The power plants connected between Java and Bali will contribute 25 MW by 2030. The total target is to reach 154.8 MW.

The acceleration of energy transition is in line with Bali's policy direction through “Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali,” a development pattern aimed at maintaining the sanctity and harmony of Bali's nature and its contents.
