No. 60/SP/TKM-AISFORUM2023/10/2023

Bali, October 10, 2023 – All delegates attending the Fifth Ministerial Meeting (MM) of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum 2023 agreed that solidarity and collaboration are essential in addressing the various challenges of climate change, particularly those impacting the marine sector.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Retno L. Marsudi, during a press briefing at the AIS Forum Media Center on Tuesday (October 10, 2023).

"We are pleased. The delegates at the 5th MM AIS Forum 2023 are all equally committed," she said, noting that the focus of the meeting was on blue economic development, climate change challenges, and solidarity among island and archipelagic countries.

Following the meeting held at BNDCC, Badung, Bali, participants in the 5th MM AIS Forum 2023 recognized that this shared vision is a key asset. All AIS Forum members agreed that it must be implemented to tackle various global challenges in the future, especially those related to the oceans.

Recent natural phenomena, Retno said, must be addressed with a spirit of togetherness, working together to find innovative solutions. “Togetherness and collaboration between island and archipelagic countries must be pursued by all stakeholders so that the impact will be broader,” Retno added.

One of the key agendas of the 5th MM AIS Forum 2023 was the formulation of a declaration document by the leaders. This document will later be submitted to heads of state for discussion at the AIS Forum Summit 2023, which will be held on Wednesday (October 11, 2023). The summit will be led directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.
